Disclaimer: The following resolutions are provided here for convenience and increased context. Please consult the CFA directly for the official versions of these resolutions. All official procedures of submitting, presenting, and adopting resolutions are handled by the CFA directly. The CFA hosts resolutions on their own site for all previous assemblies. They do not list resolutions that were considered but failed, nor do they host minutes of assembly.

In addition, from some assemblies (specifically Spring ’24 and Fall ’24), final official vote tallies for resolutions have not been released by the CFA, despite multiple requests. If you think that this information should be made available to union members, please contact your local chapter delegates to express your concerns, or email events@calfac.org directly.

Please stay tuned for more info about past and upcoming CFA assemblies, as well as more information about these resolutions and our efforts to see their implementation in the CFA. Thank you all for your support! We will keep on fighting to make the CFA stronger and more effective! Our work is just getting started!

Resolution to Establish a Strike Fund

The resolution to establish a strike fund was presented at the spring assembly and ended in a 50/50 tie. Resolution to Add an Article Protecting Academic Freedom to the Collective Bargaining Agreement

This resolution was developed to defend faculty rights in response not only to the administrative overreach of the Interim Time, Place and Manner policy recently
imposed but the way the existing policy was used to suppress faculty rights last
spring on multiple campuses. (Submitted by: John Caravello, CI)

Note: The original draft of this resolution contained proposed language for what the article would look like, as well as other necessary amendments to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The CFA required that the proposed language be removed before acceptance of this resolution for discussion.

Resolution for a New CBA Article Governing Use of AI

This resolution was coauthored by several CFA members just in time for the deadline of resolution acceptance, and thus was not drafted in time to be considered by any CFA caucuses or councils for endorsement. However, it was discussed extensively on the assembly floor.

It resolves:

  • That management be prevented from forcing the use of artificial intelligence by bargaining unit members
  • That management may not use artificial intelligence to perform bargaining unit work
  • That AI not be integrated into hiring processes of bargaining unit positions, and or into the processes of evaluation of bargaining unit members
  • That the CSU meet engage in meet and confer sessions with any introduction of artificial intelligence that may impact the work of bargaining unit members, and
  • that the California Faculty Association propose an article in its next round of bargaining to govern the use of AI towards these ends.

  • Resolution to Establish a Strike Fund (Tie)
  • Resolution to Put Decision to Call Off a Strike to a Vote of the Membership (43% Yes/52% No)
